FAIRNESS

The studio is responsible for placing entries into the correct categories. Please ensure that you are using all years of dancer training not just years of training with current studio. Please check all entries carefully prior to submission.


FORMAT

Each adjudication session will consist of a verbal adjudication from the adjudicator, medals & awards. Each day will end with the “Showoff”.


OUTSTANDING AWARD

Highest mark within a session.


MOST PROMISING AWARD

Adjudicator’s choice. Presented in sessions with 6 or more routines. Criteria may include most potential, most promise. Not necessarily second highest mark.


CHOREOGRAPHY AWARDS

Choreography awards will be for groups only & will be presented at each group adjudication session.

Choreography of the day will be presented in the evening at the Showoff.


SHOWOFF

“The Showoff” will end each day of festival. Any group from any discipline may be chosen to perform. Each adjudicator will pick their favourites. Criteria includes most entertaining, cleanest, happiest, cutest or strongest technique ~ not necessarily based on high marks. It is the adjudicators’ choice as to who/how they choose. Adjudicators will give general comments & announce awards.


FINAL OVERALL AWARDS

A Final Overall Awards session will complete the entire festival. Overall Award Winners will receive their trophies, scholarships & awards at this time. We encourage teachers & choreographers to remain in the theatre and welcome all dancers on stage for the Overall Awards presentations.

Studio High Score Award will be presented at the Final Overall Awards session.

PLATINUM 95 & Over

HIGH GOLD 90 - 94

GOLD 85 - 89

HIGH SILVER 83 – 84

SILVER 80 - 82

MINI MEDALLION ~ Dancers in our ‘Mini’ category will receive positive feedback from the adjudicator and a special SDF Mini Medallion! Adjudicators’ decisions are final. No correspondence will be forwarded.


THEATRE

SDF is held at the Festival Place theatre in Sherwood Park, AB. The theatre will open approximately 1 hr prior to festival start time.


DRESSING ROOMS

Each studio will have a designated dressing room. Signs with studio names will be posted on dressing room doors.


REHEARSAL AREA

There are 2 rehearsal rooms available for warm up & running numbers prior to performing on the stage. All studios/teachers/choreographers are expected to be courteous of one another and share the space.


BACKSTAGE

No parents are allowed backstage. Dancers are welcome backstage three numbers prior to their performance and must clear backstage immediately after their performance. Teachers are responsible for ensuring all dancer(s) are backstage on time. TEACHERS please limit backstage access to necessary personnel.


GREEN ROOM

The green room/teachers lounge is for teachers & studio owners only. It’s always refreshing to have a quiet place to get away during the festival. Snacks, catered meals & beverages will be provided for teachers/choreographers & studio owners.


ACCOMPANIMENT

A sound system will be provided. All music must be recorded on an electronic device or cd. No live accompaniment permitted. Teachers & Choreographers are responsible to play their own music. We recommended you have a backup available.


MICROPHONES

Microphones are not permitted in any category.


ON STAGE REHEARSAL

Rehearsals on the stage are not permitted during the festival. This will result in disqualification.


PROMPTING

Absolutely no prompting from the wings or audience. This may result in disqualification. * Exception > Mini Showcase category


SOLO LIMIT

Dancers may enter as many solos as desired. There is no solo limit.


RE-DANCES

Re-dances will be permitted in solo categories at the discretion of SDF. Re-dances are ineligible for a gold medal & unable to qualify for Most Promising or Outstanding awards or any Final Overall scholarships. Re-dances for technical difficulties will not be penalized.


COMPETING DANCERS

All competing dancers should be ready 30-45 minutes prior to their scheduled performance time. Festival may run up to 45 minutes early and each dancer will be expected to perform at the earlier time.


DANCING OUT OF CATEGORY

In case of unforeseen circumstances and at the sole discretion of SDF, participants may be allowed to dance ‘out of category’. Participants dancing out of category will receive a mark & adjudication comments only. They are ineligible for Most Promising or Outstanding awards or any Overall Scholarships. These routines are permitted to dance only at a time permitted by SDF.


MISING DANCERS

Cancellations & missing dancers must be reported backstage to the MC.


WITHDRAWL

The SDF Director(s) acknowledges a teacher's right to withdraw any of his/her entries.


REFUND POLICY

Entry fees/deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. NO EXCEPTIONS. There are no refunds for cancellation of entries.


PROPS

General props are permitted. NO dangerous props (Ex. Fire, swords, guns, sparklers etc) NO use of live animals. Props will be allowed in all categories. It is the studio’s responsibility to clear your own props out of the backstage area. Any damage to the stage or backstage area & any costs incurred will be the responsibility of the studio.


TIME LIMITS

We trust that all studios will enter routines based on the honor system & to be within the allotted time limits. Random timing will be in effect. Anyone abusing the allotted time limits may be subject to disqualification.


STAGE CONDITIONS

Substances which may alter the condition of the stage or rehearse room(s) are prohibited. Any damage to the stage or backstage area & any costs incurred will be the responsibility of the studio.


WRITTEN ADJUDICATIONS

Written adjudications will be given for each entry.


ADJUDICATION SHEETS

Adjudication sheets will be placed from completed categories in each participating studio file in the green room/teacher lounge. Sheets must remain in the file until the completion of festival. Some adjudicators request adjudication sheets while making scholarship decisions. Adjudication sheets may be picked up Sunday evening at the completion of festival. Any remaining sheets will be forwarded to you by mail.


VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHY

No portable device of any kind (cell phone, camera, film or video equipment) for personal use will be allowed in the theatre during the festival. Video taping & still photography for personal use is strictly prohibited. All choreography & material entered & viewed at festival is owned by each participating studio & choreographer. Any person found using such equipment may be subject to disqualification of their child/student and may be removed from the theatre. Professional photo & video will be available for purchase in the lobby.


GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

Good sportsmanship and proper conduct ensures everyone has a positive festival experience! We strive to have all participating dancers & studios show each other their support by cheering for everyone! Profanity will not be tolerated and is grounds for being expelled from the festival.


FAMILY FRIENDLY

SDF is a family friendly event. All routines, music, choreography and costumes must be suitable for family viewing and listening. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.


BEHAVIOUR

SDF does not tolerate bullying or verbal abuse of any sort towards staff, participants, volunteers or spectators.


DISQUALIFICATION

SDF reserves the right to remove or disqualify any registrations or studios if rules and regulations are broken or if behaviour does not follow our ethic of good sportsmanship.


LOST ARTICLES

SDF/Showcase Dance Festival will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles.


DETAILS

It is agreed upon entering SDF/Showcase Dance Festival that participants, including students, parents, teachers and other spectators, will not hold SDF/Showcase Dance Festival or its owners, directors, employees or host facilities liable for injuries sustained, illness contracted by them or loss of property while in attendance.
